BricsCAD is CAD software from Bricsys, which is an almost 100% replica of AutoCAD, but is less expensive. BricsCAD is available for Windows (8.1, 10, 11 (x64)) as well as Linux (from Ubuntu V18.04) or Apple (macOS 10.15 or higher). Minimum requirements include a graphics card with 1 GB VRAM.

In addition to the dwg and dxf formats, BricsCAD also supports file formats such as .dgn (MicroStation), various Windows metafile formats and .dae. BricsCAD Mechanical is required to export projects for CAM systems.

License models and costs

BricsCAD distinguishes between three license models:

  • Lifetime license (purchase license)
  • 1-year subscription (rental license)
  • 3-year subscription (rental license)

The 1-year subscription is the cheapest version, but is also limited to one year (from around €320 for the Lite version).

The lifetime license is priced between the 1-year and 3-year license (around €700 for the Lite version). Since version V24, all licenses are offered exclusively including a maintenance contract. This means that upgrades to the latest versions are possible at any time.

One license key can be used on two devices. Alternatively, network licenses (single user price + approx. 50%) can be purchased so that the purchased number of licenses can be used on different devices as required. To do this, the Network License Manager must be installed on a server to which the various users can connect.
